Ulrike Mohrs notes rising trend of retirees continuing to work

Ulrike Mohrs, the new head of the Federal Employment Agency for Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, reports a rising trend of retirees continuing to work. According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, 14 percent of people aged 65 to 74 worked alongside their pension last year, up from 13 percent the previous year.

Mohrs identifies several motivations for this trend, including financial necessity and the desire for continued social relevance and quality of life. She noted that while younger workers may be faster, older employees possess valuable experience and efficiency. The data also shows that employment is most frequent immediately following retirement, with 19 percent of those aged 65 and 66 still working, a figure that declines to 8 percent for those aged 73 and 74.
