ULS Lezíria installs first modular oncology medication room in Iberian Peninsula

The Unidade Local de Saúde (ULS) da Lezíria has installed the first modular room in the Iberian Peninsula dedicated to the preparation of cytotoxic medications used in oncology treatments. Developed by Grifols Engineering, the project involved an investment of approximately 600,000 euros.

The new Misterium modular room is located next to the Pharmaceutical Services of the Hospital Distrital de Santarém. This installation ends a nearly three-year period during which the institution had to rely daily on the Hospital de Torres Novas to secure these essential services.

According to João Cotrim, Director of Pharmaceutical Services at ULS Lezíria, the facility will increase response capacity and allow for the treatment of a larger number of patients by reducing delays caused by previous facility limitations. Pedro Marques, President of the Board of Directors, noted that the investment resulted from a partnership with the private sector to address a need identified nearly two decades ago.
