Ulsan Mayor Kim Sang-wook appears for police investigation

Ulsan Mayor Kim Sang-wook appeared at the Ulsan Metropolitan Police Agency on December 4 for his first police investigation regarding allegations of Public Official Election Act violations and overseas prostitution.

The election law investigation focuses on the suspension of public opinion polls during the candidate unification process for the June 3 local elections. The People Power Party Ulsan branch filed complaints alleging that Kim falsely claimed organized interference to influence the election results. Police are prioritizing this investigation as the statute of limitations expires on December 3.

Additionally, Kim is under investigation for allegations involving prostitution in the Philippines during his time as a lawyer and claims that funds were delivered to suppress these allegations. Kim has vehemently denied all accusations, describing them as “baseless rumors” and “matador tactics.” He stated that his trips to the Philippines were for professional business related to immigration services.

Kim challenged his accusers, stating that if the investigation results in a finding of no wrongdoing, those who raised the allegations should resign from politics and those who amplified them in the media should issue a formal apology.
