Ulsan Metropolitan City budget exceeds 6 trillion won for first time

Ulsan Metropolitan City has submitted its third supplementary budget proposal for 2026 to the city council, totaling 126.4 billion won. This addition brings the city’s total annual budget to 6.11 trillion won, marking the first time the municipal budget has exceeded the 6 trillion won threshold.

The budget focuses on resolving citizen inconveniences and supporting life-oriented projects rather than large-scale exhibitionist ventures. Key allocations include the normalization of public bus services through the purchase of 37 hydrogen and electric low-floor buses, and improvements to road environments.

In the industrial sector, the city aims to accelerate the Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AX) of its core industries, such as shipbuilding and automobiles. Funding is designated for AI-specialized ship platforms, digital talent cultivation in the shipbuilding industry, and the development of hydrogen engine testing platforms.

Additionally, the budget allocates significant funds to public welfare and safety, including 10.2 billion won for water supply system maintenance, 12 billion won for facilities and equipment at Ulsan University Hospital, and various measures to address heatwave responses and urban safety.
