Ulsan to upgrade 762 city buses with Wi-Fi 7 technology

Ulsan Metropolitan City is upgrading the public Wi-Fi equipment on all 762 of its city buses to the next-generation ‘Wi-Fi 7’ standard. This initiative is part of a government-led project by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency to provide public Wi-Fi services and support communication rights.

The new system utilizes 5G backhaul and features Multi-Link Operation (MLO) technology, which uses multiple frequency bands simultaneously. This is intended to reduce data bottlenecks and connection drops, even during peak commuting hours or while the buses are in motion. The upgrade also expands the monthly data limit per bus from 200GB to 300GB.

To ensure service quality, the city will maintain a minimum speed of at least 100Mbps through Quality of Service (QoS) standards, even after the primary data limit is reached. Equipment installation will take place during nights and weekends to avoid disrupting bus operations, with the full service scheduled to begin official operation in October.
