Ulster County Fair celebrates long history in New York

The Ulster County Fair, a long-standing community event in the Hudson Valley, has a history dating back to approximately 1869. Originally organized by residents in Ellenville under the name Southern Ulster Agricultural Society, the fair was recognized as one of the premier county fairs in New York State by 1900.

The fair has occupied various locations over the years, including the Ellenville Driving Park and Forsyth Park in Kingston, before settling in its current location in New Paltz.

In addition to farm animal exhibits and 4-H programs, the fair features unique community contests such as corn shucking, corn eating, and hay bale throwing. The fairgrounds also serve as a venue for various other regional events throughout the year, including the New Paltz Fireworks Celebration and the Rosendale International Pickle Fest.
