Ultra-processed foods linked to heart attacks and strokes in new Romanian study
A recent analysis of Romanian health data estimates that 23% to 38% of myocardial infarctions and cerebrovascular accidents may be associated with high consumption of ultra‑processed foods such as chips, biscuits, processed meats, sweetened beverages and ready‑made meals. Researchers suggest that even a moderate reduction in intake of these products could prevent a substantial number of cardiovascular events and deaths.
Separate reporting dispels several common food myths. Evidence from the Framingham Heart Study and a 2025 clinical trial shows that dietary cholesterol from eggs does not raise blood cholesterol; saturated and trans fats are the primary drivers of LDL cholesterol. Eating after 7 p.m. does not automatically cause weight gain; overall calorie balance and eating habits matter. Detox and cleanse regimens lack scientific support and may pose risks, while carbohydrates are not intrinsically fat‑producing, though low‑carb diets can aid weight loss for some individuals.
