Ultramarathon Žabnik‑Petrinja 2026 Launched by Branko Šubić in Croatia
Mayor Krešimir Ačkar of Velika Gorica met 64‑year‑old ultramarathon runner Branko Šubić, who presented his latest initiative – a five‑stage, 210‑kilometre race from Žabnik to Petrinja scheduled for 2–6 August 2026. The event will be run over five consecutive days, covering 44 km, 43 km, 42 km, 26 km and a final 54‑km leg, and is intended to honour Croatian war veterans from the Homeland War.
The race is the latest stage of Šubić’s decade‑long “Branko Šubić for veterans” project, which has previously linked Petrinja with locations such as Vukovar, Knin, Ilok, Savudrija, Prevlaka and Dubrovnik. It will be held under the patronage of President Zoran Milanović and the Ministry of Veterans, with the final stage passing through Velika Gorica on the national Day of Victory and gratitude.
Šubić, a former wrestler and notable figure in Croatian darts, organises the logistics himself while working at a local company. The mayor expressed support, wishing Šubić strength and a successful completion of the challenge.
