UltraTech Cement surpasses 2 GW green energy milestone in India
UltraTech Cement has become the first cement company in India to surpass 2 GW of installed green energy capacity for captive use. The milestone was reached following the commissioning of 116.55 MW of wind capacity at a wind-solar hybrid project in Barmer, Rajasthan, and 10 MW of Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS) capacity at its Sarlanagar Cement Works in Karnataka.
The company’s total green energy capacity of 2,024 MW consists of 1,580 MW of renewable energy and 444 MW of WHRS. This capacity currently meets approximately 48% of the company’s total power requirements. UltraTech aims to reach 85% green energy utilization by 2030.
Managing Director K C Jhanwar noted that the transition helps reduce exposure to fossil fuel supply constraints and power price volatility. So far in FY27, nearly one-third of the company’s 76 manufacturing units in India have maintained green energy utilization above 50%, with five units exceeding 95%.
