Umar Kremlev funded Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding celebrations
Donald Trump Jr. and his wife, Bettina Anderson, have confirmed that Umar Kremlev, a Russian businessman with close ties to Vladimir Putin, funded significant portions of their wedding celebrations in the Bahamas this past May.
According to investigative reports from ProPublica, Kremlev—who serves as the president of the International Boxing Association (IBA)—covered hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses. These costs reportedly included renting private islands for approximately $100,000 per night, a $70,000 fireworks display, and event organization. The payments were allegedly processed through an IBA-affiliated entity based in Dubai.
The couple described the financial support as an “extraordinarily generous wedding gift from a friend” and expressed gratitude, noting that the festivities were a personal matter. However, the revelation has drawn scrutiny from U.S. lawmakers and national security experts. Representative Robert Garcia has called for transparency regarding what might have been provided in exchange for the gift.
U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche has dismissed calls for an investigation, characterizing the funds as a gift. Kremlev is a sanctioned individual in Ukraine and has received the Order of Friendship from Vladimir Putin.
