UMass athletics updates: soccer and basketball outlooks

The Massachusetts women’s soccer team concluded its 2026 home schedule with a 4-0 loss to Western Michigan. Despite a goal from Amelia Deren in the 62nd minute, the Minutewomen struggled with possession against the Broncos, who recorded 24 shots during the match.

In women’s basketball, the Minutewomen are preparing for their 2026-27 Mid-American Conference (MAC) campaign. After finishing third in the preseason poll, the team aims to build on last season’s momentum, with key matchups against Akron and Buffalo scheduled for early 2027.

The men’s basketball team is also entering a new phase following a 17-16 season. Head coach Frank Martin has described the upcoming roster as the most talented of his tenure, despite the departures of Marcus Banks Jr. and Leonardo Bettiol. The squad will begin non-conference play with a road trip to face Troy in a MAC-SBC Challenge contest.
