UMass Dartmouth football player killed in Providence stabbing

Marvins Antoine, an 18-year-old freshman football player for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, was fatally stabbed in a Providence, Rhode Island, parking lot. The incident occurred early Saturday morning following an altercation near the Mezzo Lounge nightclub.

According to Providence Police, the confrontation began near the nightclub and moved to a nearby Wendy’s parking lot. Antoine sustained stab wounds to the chest and later died at Rhode Island Hospital. His teammate, 19-year-old Kensley Macean, was also stabbed, suffering non-life-threatening injuries to his head, neck, and arm.

Police arrested 19-year-old Chukuwnonoso Uzoma Eze, a UMass Dartmouth student who is not a member of the football team. Eze was identified through surveillance footage and license plate readers. He has pleaded not guilty to a fugitive from justice charge and has agreed to extradition to Rhode Island, where he is expected to face a murder charge. Investigators believe the initial dispute involved a female and individuals waiting in line at the nightclub.
