Šumava: Nazi propaganda exploited 1938 pub brawl

In August 1938, a violent altercation at a pub near the former settlement of Skelná in the Šumava region was exploited by Nazi propaganda to fuel anti-Czech sentiment. The incident involved members of the Sudeten German Party (SdP), led by Konrad Henlein, who provoked a group of German Social Democrats.

The Social Democrats, who maintained sympathies for Czechoslovakia, were targeted by the SdP members through insults and Nazi slogans. The tension escalated into physical confrontations, which Henlein's movement subsequently used to claim that Germans in the borderlands were being oppressed, serving as a catalyst for major political demonstrations in the region.
