Umay Shahab addresses child abuse in new film ‘Memburu Pemangsa’
Director Umay Shahab is using his upcoming film, ‘Memburu Pemangsa’, to address the critical issue of child abuse. Scheduled for release on September 24, 2026, the horror-crime-action film is inspired by Shahab’s personal experiences as a former child actor, which fueled his desire to use cinema to raise awareness about the increasing rates of violence against children.
Actor Teuku Rifnu Wikana, who plays a central character depicting a child predator, described the production as the most challenging of his career. The role required intense physical action and significant psychological depth, leading Wikana to seek support from a psychologist to manage the mental toll of portraying such a morally reprehensible character. Wikana reported sustaining physical injuries during filming, including head and leg injuries that required medical scans.
