UMBAL St. George to offer free cognitive impairment screenings

The Clinic of Nervous Diseases at UMBAL ‘St. George’ is launching a series of free examinations for mild cognitive impairment. Part of the ‘Health for All’ campaign, these screenings will run from October 5 through the end of 2026.

The initiative aims to facilitate early detection and access to specialized care for conditions that fall between normal aging and dementia. Early identification is considered critical for timely monitoring and treatment to delay disease progression.

Target candidates for these preventative screenings include individuals over 55 experiencing changes in memory, attention, or thinking, as well as patients over 60 with a confirmed diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or strong suspicion of it. To participate, patients must be able to understand instructions and remain relatively independent in daily activities. Individuals who are severely disoriented or entirely dependent on others for daily care are not suitable for this specific examination.
