Umberto Santino to present book on financial mafia in Palermo

Umberto Santino will present his new book, “La mafia finanziaria. Accumulazione illegale e complesso militare-digitale,” at the European Palermo Youth Center (EPYC) on October 29. Published by Di Girolamo Editore, the work explores the evolution of organized crime and its relationship with the global economy.

The book examines how the financialization of the economy has allowed mafia organizations to expand their role in international markets. Santino extends his analysis from 1986 to the contemporary era, addressing how modern phenomena such as war economies, international conflicts, and technological innovations—including artificial intelligence—impact illegal accumulation.

The event features discussions with several prominent figures, including Antonello Cracolici, president of the regional anti-mafia commission, and Piergiorgio Morosini, president of the Court of Palermo. The presentation is promoted by the “Giuseppe Impastato” No Mafia Memorial and the “Pio La Torre” Center for Studies and Cultural Initiatives.
