Umbria cultural municipalities report higher average taxable incomes

Data from the Umbria Chamber of Commerce reveals that municipalities with a cultural vocation in the Umbria region report higher average taxable incomes compared to other areas. The average taxable income in these 41 cultural municipalities is 24,280 euros, which is 8.9% higher than the 22,288 euros recorded in the remaining 51 municipalities.

Umbria holds the highest percentage of cultural tourism municipalities in Italy, with 41 out of 92 towns (44.6%) classified as such by Istat. Even when excluding major centers like Perugia, Terni, and Foligno, the income advantage remains at 4.2%, suggesting the economic impact of culture extends across the broader territory.

In the province of Perugia, cultural municipalities see an 8.5% income advantage, while in Terni, the gap is 10.3%. Corciano leads the ranking with an average taxable income of 26,751 euros, followed by Perugia and San Gemini. Regional officials noted that while culture serves as an economic driver, the challenge remains in connecting heritage with local commerce, craftsmanship, and services to ensure long-term growth for smaller centers.
