Umbria establishes P.U.M.A. for environmental monitoring
The Umbria Region and ARPA Umbria have approved an agreement to establish the Nucleo P.U.M.A. (Piattaforma Umbra per il Monitoraggio Ambientale), a technological platform designed for advanced environmental and territorial monitoring.
The initiative integrates existing resources from both institutions to avoid duplication of costs and expertise. The unit will utilize a suite of high-precision technologies, including drones (such as DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and Mini 4 Pro), laser scanners, georadar, GPS systems, and geomatic tools for data processing.
Key operational areas include monitoring environmental matrices, landfills, industrial sites, and contaminated areas. The unit will also perform cartographic surveys, volumetric controls for extractive activities like mines and quarries, and surveillance of areas at risk of landslides or hydrogeological instability. Additionally, the technology will support the verification of industrial plant layouts and the protection of natural areas.
