Umbria expands cancer care with four new specialized pathways
The Umbria Region has launched the development of four new preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, and assistive care pathways (Ppdta) specifically for ovarian, uterine, pancreatic, and stomach cancers. This initiative, promoted by the regional Health and Welfare Directorate, expands upon an existing specialist care network previously established for breast, colorectal, lung, and prostate cancers.
Over 100 healthcare professionals from the region's four health agencies are collaborating to define homogeneous standards. These standards aim to support patients through every stage of the disease, including primary and secondary prevention, timely diagnosis, treatment, continuous assistance, and follow-up care.
The project strengthens the Regional Oncology Network of Umbria (Ror-U) with the goal of reducing service fragmentation. By providing localized, equitable, and personalized care across the territory, the system seeks to minimize the need for citizens to travel outside the region for medical assistance. Patients will benefit from multidisciplinary oncology groups and specialized tools such as local oncology orientation points and pathway identification codes to monitor progress in real time.
