Umbria launches bone marrow and stem cell donor recruitment campaign
The Umbria region is participating in the “Match it Now!” national week dedicated to the donation of bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cells. Running from September 21 to September 27, the campaign aims to inform citizens and recruit new donors, specifically targeting young people between the ages of 18 and 35.
Health and welfare authorities in Umbria, in collaboration with hospital companies in Perugia and Terni and local health units (Usl Umbria 1 and 2), are organizing information desks and registration sessions. These activities are scheduled at hospitals in Perugia, Terni, Città di Castello, Gubbio, and Orvieto.
The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Health, the National Transplant Center, and various donor associations such as Admo, Adoces, and Adisco. Registration for the regional donor registry requires only an information interview and a small blood sample or saliva swab. Finding a compatible donor is a rare event that provides a critical chance of recovery for patients suffering from serious blood diseases.
