Sant’Orso school restores capacity as Umbria expands nursery services

In the Sant’Orso district, structural interventions at the Torricelli school have successfully addressed fire prevention compliance issues. Previously limited to a 90-person capacity due to the lack of a fire prevention certificate, the school can now accommodate over 100 children, effectively reopening two previously unused classrooms and allowing for better separation between nursery and primary school students.

In the Umbria region, 21 municipalities have requested 260 new positions in nurseries and micro-nurseries for the 2026-2028 period. The regional government has allocated approximately 1.28 million euros annually for the next three years to support these services. Major requests for new places came from Assisi (58), Valfabbrica (36), and Perugia (32). Regional Education Councilor Fabio Barcaioli noted that the high demand reflects a significant need among local families, and indicated that application terms may reopen in December to include more municipalities.
