Umbria named European Entrepreneurial Region for 2027
The Umbria region has been named the European Entrepreneurial Region (EER) for 2027 by the European Committee of the Regions. This recognition, presented in Brussels to Regional President Stefania Proietti, highlights the territory's ability to convert structural challenges into competitive advantages through innovation and sustainability.
Umbria's strategy focuses on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence and promoting non-polluting technologies. Key initiatives include the development of renewable energy communities to reduce energy costs and strengthen regional resilience, as well as digital platforms like STEPe and SMARTup to aid business growth.
Umbria is one of three winners of this biennial award, alongside the German city of Duisburg and the North-East development region of Romania. It marks the fourth time an Italian region has received the EER title, following Marche, Lombardia, and Friuli Venezia Giulia.
