Umbria implements free healthcare for women victims of violence
The Umbria Regional Council has approved a new measure to provide free healthcare and psychological support to women victims of violence. Implementing the ‘Codice Rosa’ (Pink Code) protocol, the initiative introduces a specific exemption code, ‘V99 Vittima di violenza’, to eliminate financial barriers to recovery.
Under this regulation, resident women can access outpatient specialist services and psychological assistance without paying medical co-payments (tickets). Eligibility is granted following an emergency room report or certification from public health facilities. The exemption card is initially valid for one year and is renewable if continued care is required.
To fund these services for the 2026 fiscal year, the region has allocated 50,000 euros. These funds will be distributed between the two local health authorities, Azienda Usl Umbria 1 and Azienda Usl Umbria 2, based on demographic data. Regional President Stefania Proietti emphasized that the measure aims to ensure a protected and uniform assistance path, treating gender violence as a significant public health and dignity issue.
