Umbria region launches car‑tax debt forgiveness for up to 7,000 families

The Legislative Assembly of Italy’s Umbria region approved a measure that offers an accelerated settlement for unpaid car‑tax (Bollo Auto) bills. President Stefania Proietti and Vice‑President for the Budget Tommaso Bori announced that the scheme, enacted under Decree Law of 27 March 2026 n. 38, will cancel penalties and interest on tax notices dated from 2000 to 2021, allowing taxpayers to pay only the base tax due.

The programme is expected to benefit between 5,000 and 7,000 households, easing their financial burden while helping the region recover credits owed to the national tax agency. Officials said the initiative combines fiscal equity, concrete support for families, and stricter protection of public finances.
