Umbria region moves ahead with public transport tender, retains Santa Lucia bus depot

Regional transport assessor Francesco De Rebotti announced that the Umbria public‑transport tender process is restarting after the regional council approved a basin plan and a new tariff framework. The measures include a monitoring centre to collect real‑time usage data and a budget provision ensuring that ticket prices will not rise when the new operator takes over in the second half of 2028.

The region also confirmed that the existing bus depot in Santa Lucia will stay in place, freeing 2.5 MW of electricity capacity for future electric buses and avoiding additional land use. The decision, reached with Enel, is described as a cost‑saving and service‑optimising move. The tender now also contemplates integrating the city’s Minimetrò system, which could reduce operational charges for the municipality.
