Umbria tourism generates nearly 200 million euros from international visitors
Tourism in the Umbria region of Italy is shifting focus from merely increasing visitor numbers to maximizing economic value. Regional Tourism Councilor Simona Meloni stated that the strategy aims to move from a 'policy of flows to a policy of value,' focusing on how long tourists stay and the economic impact they leave behind.
Data from the first eight months of 2026 shows that international tourism generated an estimated 196.2 million euros in Umbria from overnight stays alone. This figure does not include additional indirect economic benefits. During this period, the region saw over 2.1 million arrivals and 5.6 million presences, representing growth compared to previous years.
To support this growth, businesses such as wineries are encouraged to use Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) like TripAdvisor and GetYourGuide to reach international markets. Experts suggest that for these businesses to remain credible, they must maintain price consistency between their own websites and third-party platforms, while using distinctive descriptions and photography to stand out in a competitive digital landscape.
