Umesh Kumar resigns as independent MLA from Khanpur

Umesh Kumar, the independent MLA representing Khanpur in the Haridwar district, has resigned from the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. His resignation occurred on the final day of the current assembly session.

Kumar cited a lack of support from opposition parties regarding critical regional issues, including corruption, farmer concerns, interest on Kisan Credit Cards, and unpaid dues from sugar mills in Haridwar. He stated that despite his consistent support for the opposition both inside and outside the House, his efforts to advocate for his constituents were ignored.

Looking toward future elections, Kumar indicated plans to form or join a new political movement to ensure like-minded representatives can effectively raise local concerns. He mentioned the possibility of contesting upcoming assembly elections under the Jan Nirman Party, a group founded by his wife, Sonia Sharma.
