Umi Jigoku to host nighttime mythical light event in Beppu

Umi Jigoku, a famous hot spring site in Beppu, Oita Prefecture, will host a limited-time nighttime event titled “Night Umi Jigoku ~ The Vow of the Fire Demon and the Water Dragon ~” from September 18 to 27, 2026.

This renewed event uses light projections and sound to create a mythical atmosphere around the rising steam. The production follows a local legend regarding a conflict between a “Fire Demon” and a “Water Dragon” in the Kannawa region, which eventually led to the birth of the hot springs through divine intervention.

The event features multiple themed areas, including “The Awakening of the Fire Demon” and “The Hall of the Water Dragon.” Admission is scheduled from 19:00 to 22:00, with special discounts available for holders of Beppu Hell Tour passes.
