Umios to absorb TAFCO's aquaculture and processed foods units in October 2026
Umios Corporation, the Tokyo Stock Exchange‑listed seafood arm of former Maruha Nichiro Group, will integrate the aquaculture and processed‑foods businesses of its wholly owned subsidiary Taiyo A&F (TAFCO) through a simplified absorption‑type company split effective 1 October 2026. The move does not require shareholder approval.
The transaction brings TAFCO’s blue‑fin tuna farming operations and its frozen vegetables and seasoning lines into Umios’ portfolio, aiming to diversify products, improve operational efficiency and expand global sales via Umios’ overseas distribution network. After the split, TAFCO will focus solely on fisheries, deploying new vessels and strengthening sustainable fleet management. The board approved the plan on 28 July, and CEO Masaru Ikemi highlighted the strategy as part of Umios’ shift from “catching fisheries” to “farming fisheries” using advanced technologies.
