Umit Akdag to join Galatasaray in €6 million transfer

Umit Akdag, a 22‑year‑old centre‑back holding Romanian and Turkish citizenship, is on the verge of moving from Alanyaspor to Galatasaray. Turkish media report that the two clubs have resumed talks after an earlier breakdown over Alanyaspor’s financial demands, with a transfer fee expected around €6 million. Coach Okan Buruk has given his approval, and the deal is anticipated to be finalized before the end of June for the 2026‑27 season.

Akdag, who chose to represent Turkey at senior level despite playing for Romania’s U21 side (10 caps, two goals) and appearing at the 2025 European U21 Championship, was previously linked with rival Istanbul club Fenerbahçe. A Turkish journalist later confirmed that Akdag has opted for Galatasaray, ending the speculation.

His career includes loan spells at Göztepe and Toulouse, and he currently shares the Alanyaspor squad with Romanian forward Ianis Hagi. The €6 million price tag set by Alanyaspor appears within Galatasaray’s budget, suggesting the transfer will proceed smoothly.
