uMkhonto weSizwe Party removes Secretary-General Sibonelo Nomvalo

The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has removed Sibonelo Nomvalo from his position as secretary-general, effective immediately. The decision comes less than two weeks before the municipal elections scheduled for 4 November.

The party cited several reasons for the removal, including internal factionalism, concerns regarding the councillor selection process, and issues involving dual remuneration. Additionally, the MK Party alleged that Nomvalo made unilateral decisions and established high-level deployment committees without informing senior leadership, including Jacob Zuma and the presidency collective. Other concerns included delays in campaign materials and uncommunicated changes to parliamentary caucus structures.

Lindiwe Mtshali has been appointed acting secretary-general and will work alongside national chairperson Mxolisi Phakathi to ensure administrative continuity. National spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu will also assume additional responsibilities associated with the deputy secretary-general’s office. Nomvalo remains a member of the party’s National Assembly.
