Umm al-Khair residents report increased settler incursions
Residents of the Bedouin village of Umm al-Khair in Masafer Yatta report ongoing tensions and settler incursions. During recent community weddings, residents noted a somber atmosphere coinciding with the first anniversary of the death of activist Awdah Hathaleen, who was allegedly killed by an Israeli settler.
Community leaders reported that Shimon Atiya, an Israeli settler associated with the Havat Shorashim outpost, entered a resident's vegetable garden with livestock while being escorted by Israeli soldiers. Additionally, the fence of the outpost near village homes was torn down, which residents believe is an attempt to expand the outpost's boundaries. The community continues to face daily settler attacks, arrests, and potential demolitions by Israeli authorities.
