The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched an attack on the town of Umm Arada in North Kordofan, Sudan, resulting in at least 14 civilian deaths and dozens of injuries, according to the NGO Emergency Lawyers. While the RSF claimed the takeover as a “significant shift in field operations,” sources within the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) stated they successfully repelled two separate attacks in the Umm Arada and Jabal al-Hashamba sectors.

The violence has exacerbated an ongoing humanitarian crisis. Emergency Lawyers reported that the assault has triggered mass displacement and worsened conditions in areas already facing sieges and service shortages. Additionally, Save the Children reported that nearly 40,000 children have fled to El Obeid over the last six months to escape conflict, warning of a significant rise in child malnutrition and severe food and water shortages.
