UMNO invites PAS leadership to 2026 General Assembly

The United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) has decided to extend an official invitation to the top leadership of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) to attend the UMNO General Assembly (PAU) 2026. The decision was reached during a UMNO Supreme Council meeting chaired by President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki stated that the invitation serves as a gesture of respect and a reciprocal response to PAS's previous invitation to UMNO leadership to attend the PAS Annual Conference.

Additionally, UMNO is allowing its state-level leadership to engage in discussions and negotiations with any political parties interested in cooperation for the upcoming General Election. However, Asyraf Wajdi emphasized that any electoral cooperation must be based on sincerity and trust rather than threats or intimidation. The party noted academic findings suggesting a public desire, particularly among the Malay community, for greater unity.

The UMNO General Assembly is scheduled to take place from September 9 to 12, 2026, with several related programs set to begin on September 8.
