Umpire Manny Gonzalez exits Reds-Padres game with heat exhaustion

Home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez exited a game between the Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres on Monday due to heat exhaustion. The incident occurred at Great American Ball Park during a period of high temperatures and humidity, with a heat index warning in effect for the area.

Gonzalez was attended to by trainers near home plate before being helped down the third-base line to the dugout. While a cart was initially brought onto the field, Gonzalez was able to walk off under his own power. The Reds reported that he was treated for dehydration and elevated blood pressure, noting that his blood pressure eventually returned to normal levels.

The game experienced a 14-minute delay. Following Gonzalez's departure, first base umpire D. J. Reyburn moved behind the plate, and the remaining innings were called by a three-person umpiring crew.
