Çumra Sugar Factory launches 23rd sugar beet campaign

The 23rd sugar beet purchasing campaign has officially commenced at the Çumra Sugar Factory in Konya, Turkey. The opening ceremony was attended by local officials, including Konya Governor İbrahim Akın, Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca, and PANKOBİRLİK President Ramazan Erkoyuncu.

During the event, Governor Akın emphasized Konya's vital role in Turkey's food security and production capacity. He noted that sugar beet production contributes significantly to the regional economy and supports various agricultural sectors, including livestock through crop rotation. Akın also highlighted the importance of smart farming technologies and modern irrigation to combat challenges like climate change and water scarcity.

As the campaign begins, harvested beets from Çumra and surrounding areas are being delivered to the factory for processing. Cooperative factories currently meet approximately 17 percent of the country's sugar requirements.
