Umthetho: Netflix South African thriller follows prosecutor saving her brother

Umthetho is a new South African thriller series on Netflix centered on Mbali Dlamini, a prosecutor whose life is upended when she discovers her older brother, Moses, is alive and incarcerated. Moses, whom Mbali believed had died 14 years earlier, leads a prison gang known as Gaz’lam that advocates for inmate rights and opposes drug infiltration within the prison blocks.

The plot follows Mbali as she is pressured by Moses’ wife, Crystal, to use her legal expertise to help him. Moses has been framed for the murder of an inmate by the corrupt prison warden, Agnes Khoza, and her accomplice, Detective Bennet Tau, to prevent him from exposing their narcotics trade. As Mbali navigates these legal and criminal complexities, she also deals with family dynamics involving her younger brother, Sphelele.
