Umuarama lawyer dies after tennis court collapses during storm

A 42-year-old lawyer, Rafael Marchiani Paião, died after being struck by a collapsing tennis court structure during a severe storm in Umuarama, Paraná. The incident occurred at the Harmonia Clube de Campo on Tuesday afternoon.

One other man was injured in the collapse and transported to a local hospital. The Civil Police have opened an inquiry to investigate the circumstances of the accident. In response to the tragedy, the Harmonia Clube de Campo announced it would remain closed on Wednesday in honor of the deceased.

The collapse was caused by intense weather conditions, including wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h, as a cold front associated with an extratropical cyclone passed through the region. Simepar reported wind speeds of 101.5 km/h in Umuarama and up to 105.12 km/h in Santa Maria do Oeste. The storm system also brought hail and heavy precipitation, causing various structural damages across the state.
