Umut Ersoy outlines political platform for Nicosia parliamentary candidacy

Umut Ersoy, the Foreign Relations Secretary for Bağımsızlık Yolu and a parliamentary candidate for Nicosia, has detailed his political objectives, emphasizing that his goals are based on a long-term program rather than mere election promises. Ersoy stated that his party aims to bring grassroots struggles into the Parliament, positioning themselves as advocates for workers.

Ersoy addressed several structural issues, including the need for legal reforms to protect press and freedom of expression. He cited past attacks on journalists, such as the 2018 incident involving the Afrika newspaper, as evidence that impunity encourages further aggression.

Furthermore, Ersoy criticized the tendency to reduce political issues like corruption and transparency to simple mismanagement by current governments. He argued that these are structural problems linked to class relations and the political and economic relationship with Turkish sovereignty.
