UN calls for documentation of Iran's transnational repression
UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, Mai Satow, has issued a formal call for documentation regarding the Islamic Republic's transnational repression of dissidents. The appeal targets victims of human rights violations, their families, human rights defenders, and civil society organizations.
Satow is seeking evidence of intimidation, threats, surveillance, and harassment of opponents living abroad, as well as pressure exerted on their family members within Iran. Specific areas of interest include travel restrictions, asset seizures, and the misuse of consular services to target critics.
The request also seeks information on the socio-economic, legal, and psychological impacts on families of those who have been detained, disappeared, killed, or executed. The collected documentation will be used for an upcoming report to be presented at the 64th session of the UN Human Rights Council. Individuals and organizations have until November 15, 2026, to submit information.
