UN calls for increased humanitarian assistance in Gaza

Greek UN envoy Ag. Baltas told the Security Council that humanitarian aid to Gaza must be scaled up, stressing the need for large‑scale relief projects and the role of agencies such as UNRWA, UNICEF and WHO. UN Under‑Secretary‑General Tom Flescher reported that the flow of aid trucks has risen 72%, averaging 108 trucks a day, yet the situation remains fragile, with about 70% of Gaza’s population lacking shelter and basic services and roughly 1,000 Palestinians killed since the ceasefire. The UN and Oxfam called for the removal of Israeli restrictions on all crossing points, urgent delivery of food, medical supplies, fuel and clean water, and urged full disarmament of Hamas. The officials highlighted that dignity and access to education and health are essential for the population’s recovery.
