UN expands blacklist of 214 companies linked to Israeli settlements

The United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) has updated its database of companies involved in activities related to Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem. The latest report increases the total number of listed companies to 214, representing entities from 11 different countries.

The update includes 61 new companies, while 5 previously listed entities were removed. The vast majority of the companies, 192, are Israeli. Other participating countries include the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom, Mexico, South Africa, the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, and Spain.

According to the OHCHR, 200 companies are classified as contributing to adverse impacts on the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, and 14 are classified as being directly linked to such impacts. High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk emphasized that companies have human rights responsibilities and should conduct due diligence to avoid involvement in abuses.

Israel has categorically rejected the publication, with its diplomatic mission in Geneva stating the database is an attempt to blacklist businesses that have committed no wrongdoing.
