UN experts demand probe into alleged killing of Baloch civilian by Pakistani forces

United Nations human rights experts have expressed grave concern regarding the alleged enforced disappearance, torture, and extrajudicial killing of Imran Ali, a Baloch civilian, by Pakistani forces.

According to the experts, Ali was abducted from his residence on August 27, 2025, by approximately 20 agents from Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department. His family received no official information regarding his whereabouts for one year. Former detainees who were held with Ali later confirmed he had been in custody and was reportedly tortured for several days.

During a hearing before Pakistan’s Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, a police officer stated that Ali was killed during an alleged encounter in May 2026. Authorities reportedly took one month to identify his body and claimed they were unable to preserve his remains, leading to his burial in June 2026.

The experts noted that Ali’s body was discovered at a hospital alongside six other unidentified bodies that were neither documented by staff nor reported to police. They have called on Islamabad to conduct a prompt, impartial investigation, including forensic examinations, to determine the circumstances of his death and to investigate whether the other unidentified bodies also belong to victims of enforced disappearances.
