UN-Habitat and Asocapitales launch initiatives for urban resilience in Colombia

UN-Habitat has launched a regional call for proposals to strengthen urban resilience and disaster risk reduction across Latin America and the Caribbean. The program seeks academic institutions and higher education organizations to design and implement a two-year virtual learning program focused on urban development, climate change adaptation, and governance. The initiative aims to reach at least 80 municipalities and 240 technical officials, with selected partners receiving a USD 50,000 grant.

In Colombia, the Association of Colombian Capital Cities (Asocapitales) is working alongside UN-Habitat to apply international lessons to urban reconstruction following recent earthquake damage. Asocapitales has established a high-level technical task force to support territorial entities in damage assessment and fiscal solution design. This includes the use of digital tools like the 'Radar de Afectaciones' to track infrastructure damage and a 'Bank of Needs and Talents' to connect municipal technical requirements with qualified professionals in fields such as structural engineering.
