UN Human Rights Committee warns of delays in Cristina Kirchner case

The United Nations Human Rights Committee has informed Cristina Kirchner’s legal team that a resolution regarding her request to review her conviction may take several years. The Committee noted that due to the high volume of cases currently under review, a decision on the admissibility and merits of the matter is not imminent.

Kirchner’s defense team is seeking to overturn her six-year prison sentence and permanent disqualification from holding public office related to the ‘Vialidad’ case. Their strategy includes requesting a precautionary measure to suspend her disqualification, which they hope to use to support a potential presidential candidacy in 2027.

In their filings, lawyers Carlos Alberto Beraldi, Rafael Valim, and Javier Borrego have raised concerns regarding alleged intimidation by judges and President Javier Milei, as well as the unauthorized dissemination of private footage from a 2018 raid. They are also attempting to introduce new evidence concerning the SISVIAL trust to argue that funds were not diverted to favor Lázaro Báez’s business interests.
