UN Panel Warns AI Governance Lags Behind Rapid Technological Advances

A preliminary report from the UN's Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence cautions that the pace of AI development is outstripping existing regulations, oversight mechanisms, and state institutions. The 40‑expert panel, representing multiple regions, warns that unchecked AI could deepen inequality, spread disinformation, disrupt labor markets and concentrate power in a few firms and states.
