UN proclaims International Day for Women Searching for Missing Persons

The United Nations General Assembly has officially proclaimed December 19 as the International Day for Recognition of Women Searching for Missing Persons. This designation aims to highlight the work of women—including mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters—who dedicate themselves to finding disappeared loved ones.

In Baja California, Paula Sandoval, president of the Association of Families United in Searching for Our Disappeared, noted that the date is not a celebration but a tool for visibility. She emphasized the need for authorities to guarantee the safety of these women and provide concrete information regarding missing persons.

Separately, in Monterrey, Mexico, DIF Monterrey and the Association Unidas Contigo have established the ‘Alianza Rosa’ (Pink Alliance). This partnership aims to strengthen breast cancer prevention, care, and support for women. The initiative integrates existing municipal services, such as breast reconstruction programs, oncological rehabilitation therapies, and access to mammography through local health clinics.
