UN raises war crime concerns in Gaza amid lethal strikes in Lebanon
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has expressed grave concern regarding potential war crimes in the Gaza Strip. Türk noted that many bodies recovered from destroyed sites appear to be entire families, including women and children. The UN reports that the Israeli offensive has generated approximately 61 million tons of debris, a process that could take up to seven years to clear. Palestinian authorities estimate that over 8,000 victims remain buried under rubble, with total deaths exceeding 73,000. Türk also criticized Israeli forces for continuing to destroy residential areas even after territories have been occupied.
Simultaneously, Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon have killed at least 13 people, including six children. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported these fatalities during a period of intensified bombardment, raising fears of a major military escalation despite previous ceasefire efforts. The Israeli military stated that its operations targeted individuals seen transporting weapons in the Kfar Rumman area. Rescue teams have been working with heavy machinery to recover victims from residential buildings hit during the strikes.
