UN Representatives Condemn Israeli Actions in Gaza and West Bank
At a United Nations Security Council session, Turkey’s Permanent Representative Ahmet Yıldız, speaking on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), condemned Israel’s military actions and settlement expansion. Yıldız criticized the implementation of the E1 plan, which involves the construction of over 2,000 new housing units in a strategic area, stating such moves conflict with international law.
Yıldız also addressed the situation in Gaza, calling for an immediate transition to the second phase of a ceasefire agreement and urging compliance with UN resolutions. He expressed strong condemnation regarding attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and warned against plans to divide the holy site. Additionally, he denounced Israeli military incursions into Syria and Lebanon.
Separately, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk reported that Palestinian civilians continue to suffer heavy casualties in Gaza despite ceasefire efforts. Türk warned that Israel is advancing the annexation of the West Bank in violation of International Court of Justice rulings. He also highlighted global human rights challenges, including the escalating conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, and Sudan, as well as the emerging risks posed by artificial intelligence.
