UN says Gaza remains unsafe for civilians amid school attacks and demolitions

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq warned that Gaza remains unsafe for civilians. In Gaza City a sixth‑grade student was hit by a bullet in a tented classroom and taken to hospital. Israeli forces also demolished homes and the last remaining school in the former four‑school compound at Beit Lahia, then placed cement blocks to expand restricted zones. The war in Gaza has so far caused 1,209 deaths and 3,943 injuries.

In the occupied West Bank, Israeli authorities demolished parts of a school in the Masafer Yatta area of southern Hebron, where more than 1,000 Palestinian residents are under pressure to leave. Over 80 Palestinian schools face demolition orders. Humanitarian partners have reached more than 60,000 students, rehabilitated 30 schools, provided transport, cash assistance, psychosocial support and legal aid, while stressing that international humanitarian law requires protection of civilians and education facilities.
